Centre management swaps working lunch for lots of laughs on National ‘Fun at Work Day’
Colleagues at Shrewsbury Shopping Centres took a break from their regular jobs this week, swapping management meetings for toy testing as part of National ‘Fun at Work Day’ on Thursday (28 January).
Centre Manager Kevin Lockwood and Operations Manager Russell Hall took time out from running the bustling malls of the Darwin, Pride Hill and Riverside Shopping Centres to instead spend their lunch break checking out product lines and working on their laughter lines at Hawkin’s Bazaar in the Pride Hill Shopping Centre.
“While it’s fair to say we enjoy our jobs at the centre most days, we thought it was probably not quite as much fun as working in a toy and gadget gifts shop,” said Kevin. “We spoke with our friends at Hawkin’s Bazaar and they thought it would be great fun to show us how they filled their days with laughs, trying out the latest toys and cracking up over crazy gadgets.”
Kevin and Russell joined store supervisor Amber Lowe to mark National Fun at Work Day on Thursday. “It was great to loosen the tie and try out some gadgets and gizmos, taking a short break from maintenance issues, paperwork and audits,” said Russell. “We know from working closely with our retailers that the team at Hawkin’s Bazaar are always smiling, so we thought that would be a great place to take part in National Fun at Work Day.”
Amber Lowe, retail supervisor of Hawkin’s Bazaar, said the day had been a big hit with the team, as well as with customers. “As well as supporting the retailers here at the centre, Kevin and Russell are always game for a laugh and we have a lot of fun with them most days,” she said, “so seeing them trying to get to grips with some of our latest electronic toys was hilarious. We had a really good laugh, and some of our customers thought it was hysterical to see two grown men in their business suits having a play with some of our toys.”
